Release history
An overhaul of the codebase: clearer installer architecture, easier disk choices and recovery, and less duplicated code, so Abora is safer to change as it grows.
The reliability release: a partition editor and plain-language failure reasons in the installer, installs onto an existing partition, Abora adoption on existing NixOS, opt-in Abora Labs, the Community app, a feedback and bug-report app, and fixes from issues #32 and #33. Five editions: Cosmic, Hyprland, GNOME, KDE, Other.
Pre-release follow-up to Everest. Merges the V4 branch and refreshes the README, contributing guidelines, SECURITY.md, and adds a Code of Conduct.
The multi-edition release: five ISOs (Cosmic, Hyprland, GNOME, KDE, Other), ANIX v2 with pluggable configuration languages, real GPU driver selection, an optional Abora Gaming layer, and an audit-driven stability pass. 83 commits landed after the last Everest alpha.
First tagged Everest 4.0 alpha. Introduced the five editions instead of one large ISO, GPU driver picking, and the new Abora Welcome app on GNOME, KDE Plasma, and COSMIC.
Reliability and recovery release on the flake-native base. Fixed MangoWM rebuild failures, stopped `abora update` from picking older releases, protected `flake.nix` from failed downloads, and added release validation.
Demo pre-release on the v3 base for testing MangoWM and v3.1 branch work early. Not put through the 50+ VM tests that Denali got.
The release where Abora starts feeling like Abora: rebuilt installer, proper branding, 21 desktop options, ANIX v1, TinyPM v4, Modularity, app bundles, and better hardware support.
Management release: the `abora` command layer (welcome, doctor, recovery, desktop), safer updates, better rollback paths, and a real first-run welcome. Ships TinyPM v3.
Rebuilt the installer as a multi-step flow with locale detection, a confirm screen, number-key shortcuts, and a finish screen, plus a much larger desktop and app lineup.
Moved the NixOS base from 25.11 to 26.05. A retested build followed on 2026-03-27 with bug fixes.
First full public release on a NixOS base: terminal-first live boot and installer, Abora Welcome and Center, branded bootloader and wallpapers, and a Nix flake ISO pipeline.
First working public ISO. Booted and loaded a desktop, but some bootloader branding still used NixOS visuals.

Stable ISO
Major and minor releases
A new Stable ISO is published when a major or minor version ships. Tested, tagged, and permanently archived. Recommended for most users.
Edge ISO
Rolling · newest work first
Edge follows the edge branch directly, with no waiting for a tag. Installer fixes, desktop patches, and ANIX updates land here first, before they have been fully vetted.

Which release should I run?
Stable: v4.1 Horizon (current)
The current stable build for daily use. Tagged, tested releases land here.
Edge: newest builds
Get installer fixes, MangoWM/COSMIC/Hyprland patches, and ANIX improvements as soon as they land. Best for power users who want the freshest build.
Edge track: toward v4.2 Solstice
The channel that tracks the v4.2 Solstice codebase overhaul. Use it for the latest updates and to give feedback, and expect things to break.
Legacy: v1.x and earlier
Old releases with known bugs and no active support. Kept here for history. Not recommended for daily use.
